Crosspulse is a non-profit arts organization dedicated to the creation, performance and recording of rhythm-based, intercultural music and dance. Crosspulse projects often involve Body Music, both traditional and contemporary, as pioneered by founding Executive Artistic Director Keith Terry. Body Music – clapping, slapping, snapping, stepping and vocalizing – is an amalgam of composition and choreography, music you can see, dance you can hear. Likely the first music/dance, the various Body Musics of the world contain kinesthetic ‘libraries’ of memories and cultural heritage, and blur the lines between music and dance.
KEITH TERRY is a percussionist/rhythm-dancer/educator whose artistic vision has straddled the line between music and dance for more than four decades. As a soloist he has appeared in such settings as Lincoln Center, Bumbershoot, NPR's All Things Considered and Morning Edition, PRI's The World, the Vienna International Dance Festival, and the Paradiso van Slag World Drum Festival in Amsterdam.
As a producer he has created 5 CDs and 4 DVDs for Crosspulse Media.
Evie Ladin
pronounced EEvee LAYdin - spelled E V I E L A D I N
The polyrhythmic funk of Evie Ladin's clawhammer banjo, resonant voice, real stories and rhythmic dance - have been heard from A Prairie Home Companion to Celtic Connections, Lincoln Center to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Known as a driving force behind San Francisco's Stairwell Sisters, Evie's solo debut Float Downstream (2010) was produced by Mike Marshall and Keith Terry. Sing Out! magazine reports "Solid song craft performed wonderfully end to end...Very strongly recommended."
Evie started playing banjo at the age of 8, clogging since 5, and has a fluid expressiveness in these traditional Appalachian arts, even as she brings an urban edge and contemporary vision to her ripe stories, and deep interpretations of old songs. Based in Oakland, CA, Evie tours solo, duo with Keith Terry, or with her expansive stringband quartet - Evie Ladin Band. In any combination, Evie's live performance is a demonstrative, delightfully gorgeous storm.
